Please reach us at holidays@custardcreamscottage.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We love well behaved pets and they are very welcome to join us. We ask that you keep your pet downstairs and don't let them go on the furniture. If you let us know you have a pet, we can provide bowls for you to use, though you will need to bring your pets own bed. The cottage is cosy, so we would say that two medium size dogs would be comfortable - you may find it a bit cramped if you have more than that or they are large dogs.
There is a field within a couple of minutes walk where you can exercise your dogs as well as lots of lovely local walks from the cottage. The courtyard garden is secure and enclosed, but obviously for the benefit of other guests we ask that your pet doesn't use it as a toilet.
There is free on street parking directly outside the cottage; however it is on a first come, first served basis and not reserved. There is also half an hour disc parking (we provide the disc in the cottage) if you can't park immediately outside so that you can unload and wait for a space to become available. There is a local school nearby so we tend to find that the parking becomes easier after 3, which coincides with check in time. There is also a pay and display car park 3 minutes walk away which is £1.40 for 12 hours. The local bus and train stations are within a 5-10 minute walk of the cottage if you prefer to come by public transport and Leeds Bradford Airport is about 35 minutes away in a taxi.
Guests are welcome to check in from 3pm and check out by 10am. There is a key box for the cottage which we will give you the code for when you book so you are welcome to arrive at a time to suit you 3pm onwards. If we can offer you an earlier check in we will let you know ahead of your arrival and if you would like to check out later please message us to see if this would be possible. Unfortunately we don't have space to store bags before or after check in/check out.
No - the cottage is no smoking and no vaping. There is the outside courtyard garden where you can smoke, but we ask that you use the facility provided to dispose of your cigarette butts.
No - the cottage only sleeps four and this is all we are insured for so unfortunately we can't provide a sofa bed and can't accommodate fold up or blow up beds.
You are very welcome to bring your children and we provide childrens books, DVDs, games and a little train set to keep them amused. We also have some child friendly plates / cups and bowls. We unfortunately don't provide high chairs, cots, stair gates or fire guards, so please keep this in mind when booking and bring your own if you need them. There is a log burning stove in the lounge and the stairs to the bedrooms are fairly steep, as this is an old cottage.
The two bedrooms in the cottage are up a single staircase which is fairly steep and a little bit narrow, as the cottage was built in the 1800s. There is a hand rail provided. The bathroom in the cottage is downstairs but we don't have hand rails near the toilet / in the shower. The door ways in the cottage are standard width or a little bit narrower and the cottage is quite cosy with plenty of furniture in the downstairs area.
We offer the best rates for guests who book directly with us and we will provide you with an invoice which you can pay by card / bank transfer. Guests who book directly with us can cancel a week in advance without any penalty. Guests who cancel after this time will receive a 50% refund and guests who cancel less than 48 hours in advance will not receive a refund, though we will try and accommodate you on a different set of dates where we can. We charge a £25 cleaning fee on top of the nightly charge and a £10 additional fee if you have a pet. Guests are also welcome to book to stay with us via booking.com, air bnb and vrbo if you would prefer.
Yes! Knaresborough is the perfect base to explore the local area on your bike, and the rear courtyard is secure if you would like to store your bikes there. We just ask that you clean up any mud that you might leave in the cottage as the courtyard can only be accessed through the house.
