Knaresborough's iconic viaduct and waterside, with boating and cafes/pubs is just a 10 minute walk from the cottage. You can take a stroll through the grounds of Knaresborough Castle on your way, maybe visiting the museum. Across the river is Mother Shipton Cave, the oldest tourist attraction in the UK.

We are so lucky in Knaresborough to have a weekly market on a Wednesday with a good range of stalls from local producers. We have a farmers market once a month, and then we have an artisan market in the castle grounds once a month - which is where these fabulous strawberry tarts were from!

Knaresborough Market place is just 5 minutes walk from the cottage. It's a picturesque and thriving little town - the market place has variety of shops, pubs and cafes, the majority of which are dog friendly. We have local bakers, fish and chip shops, antiques shops, clothes shops and a fabulous off license!

There are so many places to eat and drink near the cottage - you won't need to use our well equipped kitchen! We have a list of our recommended places in the cottage and quite a few places offer our cottage guests discounts on breakfast or dinner with proof of booking.

There are so many places easily reached from Knaresborough. The train station is 10 minutes walk away with regular trains to York (above), Leeds and Harrogate and our local bus station is 5 minutes walk with buses to Harrogate, Ripon, York and Boroughbridge. The Yorkshire Dales are about an hours drive away and coastal resorts of Scarborough / Whitby are about an hour and a half away. 

We are very lucky to have a lot of fabulous walks from straight from the cottage - you really don't need to use your car! Nidd Gorge is beautiful to explore (pictured above) and the grounds of Conyngham Hall are within easy reach to explore the riverside. There are some quirky features if you walk along Abbey Road including wood carvings and the House in the rock as well as St Roberts Cave and the Chapel of our Lady in the rock.
